Two Cases of Bronchial Foreign Body Eausing Lung Atelectasis

Abstract
Author have experienced two cases of bronchial foreign body causing left lung atelectasis whomwere seen at E.N.T. clinic.
Case 1 A 3 year old boy visited at this depai tment on Oct. 4, 1967, with chief complaints of mild fever, coughing and dyspnea.
7 days prior to admission, a bean sized plastic material of toy was suposed to be inhaled into the air way during playing.
Chest X-ray film revealed left lung atelectasis. A left bronchial foreign body was removed under lower bronchoscopy on Oct. 5, 1957.
6 days later, the lung atelectasis returned to the normal state of the lung.
Case 2: A 4 year old boy visited at pediatric Dept. of University Hospital on Feb. 7, 1968, with chief complaints of coughing, sputum, fever and mild dyspnea for 5 months.
Chest-X-ray film revealed left lung atelectasis. On Feb. 9, 1968, bronchoscopic examination revealed a foreign body seen in left bronchus, and the foreign body was removed successfully.
Removed foreign body was a piece of chewing gum. 3 days later, the lung atelectasis returned to the normal state of the lung, but pneumonic infiltration shadow remained for 4 weeks.
